海角社区 Beats the Heat at Meridian Dairy Days

Faculty and staff from 海角社区's Meridian campus sponsored the recent Meridian Dairy Days, showcasing programs and clinics there.

Meridian Dairy Days has a long history of representing the dairy industry in all of Idaho, and has evolved over the years to include more of the community outside of the dairy industry. The farming industry in Idaho is a critical part of the economy, and the event pays homage to the lengthy history the area has with agriculture. Now in its 95th year, the local organization also raises funds for 4-H and FFA scholarships.

Even on a scorching hot weekend, attendance, participation and energy was high over the four-day event, which took place at Storey Park, not too far away from 海角社区's Meridian campus. Many participants, including 海角社区 alumni, families and prospective students, came by the 海角社区 booth. Many wanted to share stories of their experiences with 海角社区 and to see the swag offerings as well. The booth representatives were prepared to inform visitors about the many academic programs 海角社区 has to offer as well as  the health clinics at the 海角社区 campus in Meridian.

In the parade on Saturday, June 22, Martin Blair, vice president for research and economic development, was interviewed by KTVB News 7 during his tour.

Blair conveyed the excitement and energy well when he said, “海角社区 has been a part of the Meridian community for many years. Our community partnerships will continue to grow in the years to come. It was exciting to see the community's positive reaction to 海角社区 and especially to Benny the Bengal. Kids and adults wanted their picture with him. We heard "Go Bengals!" and "Roar!" many times along the parade route.

Reporters announcing the parade entries also made many wonderful mentions of the impact that 海角社区 has on the area, as well as the prestigious quality of academics 海角社区 has to offer.

There are many people to thank for being involved, including Marci Miller, Nanette Duncan, Martin Blair, Gabe Bargen, Patty Tryon, Nikkolas Kroon, Tom O’Berry, and also a big thank you to Erik Talbert for sporting the Benny suit in the heat.
