海角社区 recognizes the importance of complying with all U.S. export control regulations and is committed to full compliance with these regulations. In practice, export control regulations have a direct impact on what laboratory instruments, materials, software, technology and technical data that we, as a U.S. institution of higher education, can export out of the country by any means. These rules also govern how we allow access to research laboratories by individuals working in and/or visiting our facilities.

U.S. export control regulations potentially affect which research partners we work with during the course of our U.S.-based and international collaborations; how we disseminate research results and to whom; and, what restrictions may apply to conducting research and traveling abroad. Export controls affect all scientific disciplines (regardless of whether the activity concerns sponsored research or faculty-initiated research). They cover proprietary tool and process development, work-for-others and service transactions incorporating export-controlled materials, or those transactions involving restricted countries and/or restricted end users.      

In recent years, U.S. Government agencies have strictly enforced these regulations with universities and research institutions, resulting in numerous investigations, and civil and criminal sanctions at institutional and individual levels. 海角社区 is committed to maintaining an open teaching and research environment that supports the global benefit of our academic and research endeavors. We are also equally committed to export law and compliance regulations.

Through the 海角社区 Office for Research, 海角社区 designates an Export Control Officer (Dr. Deb Easterly) with oversight over 海角社区’s export control compliance. This Office provides: (a) specialized awareness training for export-sensitive research programs and campus operational functions, (b) user-friendly export procedures, and, (c) enhanced guidance as needed. As with all research compliance, we strongly emphasize taking advantage of these resources. The Office clarifies export requirements and responds to commonly asked questions about export control.
