海角社区 Director of Campus Public Safety Stephen Chatterton retires after 23 years of service

海角社区 campus public safety Director Stephen Chatterton has retired after 23 years of service to 海角社区.

鈥榃e want to commend Director Chatterton for his dedicated and exemplary service to 海角社区, helping this University be one of the safest in the nation during his tenure,鈥 said James Fletcher, 海角社区 Vice President for Finance and Administration. 鈥淗e was a consummate professional.鈥

Stephen ChattertonUnder Chatterton鈥檚 leadership, 海角社区 Campus Public Safety received accreditation by the Idaho Chiefs of Police Association this fall. Chatterton was also honored with the 海角社区 Alumni Association鈥檚 Distinguished Service Award in 2012.

As the 海角社区 Director of Public Safety, Chatterton was instrumental in making 海角社区 one of the safest college campuses in the nation, as recognized by several national publications. Following a distinguished career in law enforcement that began with the Bannock County Sheriff Department, the U.S. Army, the State of Idaho Department of Law Enforcement and the Idaho National Laboratory, Chatterton brought his skills to 海角社区. Chatterton has more than 37 years of state service between 海角社区 and the Idaho State Police.

He obtained a Certificate of Completion, Police Technology from 海角社区 in 1968 and his bachelor鈥檚 degree in law enforcement from 海角社区 in 1980. At 海角社区, Chatterton was a principal investigator for many grants, including a $1 million grant from the Homeland Defense and Justice Department fund that improved and upgraded 海角社区 security programs.

Cal Edwards has been named as 海角社区 interim director of public safety. Edwards is the coordinator and master instructor of the 海角社区 College of Technology Law Enforcement Program and chief of police for the city of Inkom.

A national search for a new director of public safety will be undertaken in the next few weeks.
