海角社区 confers 428 degrees, certificates at summer commencement

海角社区 conferred 428 degrees and certificates to 419 students during summer commencement ceremonies Friday, Aug. 3, in the Joseph C. and Cheryl H. Jensen Grand Concert Hall in the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Ceremonies included musical selections by The Portneuf Brass, whose members are Randy Earles, DMA, and Thomas Banyas, trumpets; Craig Knutson, French horn; William Phoenix, trombone; and William Smith, tuba. Earles, Banyas and Knutson are 海角社区 music department faculty.

Debra Larkin, soprano, sang the national anthem and the 鈥淎lma Mater Hymn,鈥 accompanied by The Portneuf Brass.

Lee Krehbiel, PhD, 海角社区 interim vice president for Student Affairs, delivered the invocation.

海角社区 President Arthur C. Vailas conferred the degrees.

The graduates were presented by Thomas T. Jackson, PhD, dean of the graduate school; Joseph D. Steiner, PharmD, dean of the College of Pharmacy; and Barbara Adamcik, PhD, associate provost.

Kandi Turley-Ames, PhD, chair and professor of the 海角社区 psychology department and winner of 海角社区鈥檚 2007 Distinguished Teacher Award, delivered the commencement address.

Institutional reader was Alan Frantz, PhD, professor, Department of Educational Leadership.

John Masserini, DMA, chair of the Faculty Senate, led the processional and placed the faculty mace.
