海角社区 to host Senior Health and Wellness Symposium in Treasure Valley Oct. 19
October 10, 2018
BOISE- The Kasiska Division of Health Sciences at 海角社区 will host a health and wellness symposium for older Idahoans, Friday, Oct. 19 at the Dick Eardley Boise Senior Center, 690 Robbins Road. The event runs from 9 a.m.to noon, with lunch provided by the center.
The 海角社区 Senior Health and Wellness Symposium, formerly called the Thomas Geriatric Symposium, will provide interactive presentations on topics of interest to seniors, including medication, oral health, fall prevention and nutrition. There will be demonstrations and prize giveaways. Student pharmacists will administer flu shots, blood pressure screenings and provide information about pneumonia vaccinations.
Flu shots are free with Medicare insurance cards. Without insurance, the cost is $25, say organizers.
鈥淭aking the symposium to the Boise senior center, rather than holding it on campus this year, is an effort to improve access to health care and health information for the local senior community,鈥 said Chris Owens, interim dean for the College of Pharmacy and chair of the symposium planning committee.
The symposium will also showcase more than 30 health science programs available at 海角社区.
An interprofessional case study event for 海角社区 students and faculty will follow from 1-4 p.m. on the Meridian campus, 1311 E. Central Drive. Seniors are also invited to the afternoon session.
