海角社区 Admission Deferment Policy
Students may choose to defer their enrollment at 海角社区 in order to perform voluntary service.
Example: church mission, U.S. military, or other government or non-profit agency.
Fill Out a Deferment Request Form
An admitted student may submit a one-time request to defer their admission to a future semester that is up to six (6) subsequent semesters after the semester they were offered admission. This does not include summer semesters.
Example: A student admitted for the Fall 2023 semester could request a deferment up to and including the Fall 2026 semester.
This deferment assumes that the student will not enroll at another postsecondary institution prior to their enrollment at 海角社区.
The Deferment Request Form must be submitted to the Office of Admission by August 1 before the fall semester for which the student has been admitted.
Example: For students admitted for Fall 2025 semester, the form must be received by August 1, 2025.
- The deferment guarantees admission to 海角社区 but not necessarily admission to a particular academic major and/or program of study.
- Students who received a scholarship offer and were fully admitted to 海角社区 but will not be attending until a later date due to medical reasons, military deployment, church service, or other approved reasons will need to complete the “Admission Deferment Request Form” by August 1 of the year they were initially admitted.
- This request form will act as your "Deferment for admissions" and ensure that you will be considered for the scholarship awarding index that is in place at the time of your return. Your award will be based upon your GPA (as of the scholarship deadline) at the time of your return. For homeschool students and those with a GED, the ACT or SAT scores (as of the scholarship deadline) will be used for awarding.
- Grant funded; Endowed; Annual (i.e. those in BOSS) 1 semester (or year) awards cannot be held due to the funding allocations and the need to re-award.
- Students who receive scholarships outside of 海角社区 will need to contact the outside agency.
- If an admitted student is awarded financial aid and plans to defer their enrollment, the student must cancel their financial aid with 海角社区 Financial Aid by calling (208) 282-2756 or emailing financialaidoffice@isu.edu. Students will need to reapply for financial aid for the semester in which they plan to enroll and meet the appropriate deadlines at that time.
Student Responsibilities
- Submit the Deferment Request Form to the Office of 海角社区 by the appropriate deadline.
- Update 海角社区 on any change of address or contact information before their volunteer departure.
- Contact the Financial Aid Office directly if you wish to complete the FERPA release process to allow a parent or guardian to access any financial information while the student is away.
Admitted students who decide to pursue volunteer service after starting their enrollment at 海角社区 and plan to return to 海角社区 must work with their academic advisor and the staff in Financial Aid and/or Scholarships regarding the impact on their future enrollment.
